The bottom half--the tougher one--of the Wimbledon men's singles draw will be in action on Tuesday. That means Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal are all on the schedule.
Unable to recover from foot surgery in time for the French Open, Milos Raonic withdrew from the season's second Grand Slam earlier this week.
Tennis fans may have been doing double-takes when they took a gander at Wednesday's results on the ATP Tour. That's because Ernests Gulbis was shown to have defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the second round of the Open de Nice Cote d'Azur.

It did not take long for Roberto Bautista Agut to begin his Most Improved Player of the Year campaign in 2014. The Spaniard, who crashed onto the ATP World Tour scene with a surprise run to the season-opening Aircel Chennai Open final a year prior, did not waste time in making his presence felt once again.
Last call. That’s the usual description of Paris: The last chance to earn points before the Race is closed. And, for all but the Top Eight, the last chance to settle their year-end rankings. The effects of that are curious. Some years, when the Race is tight, Paris is extraordinarily strong. Other years, it ends up extremely weak.
Bernard Tomic's first tournament with Xavier Malisse in his coaching corner continued on Friday with a 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6) win over Fernando Verdasco in the quarterfinals of the Stockholm Open. At the Kremlin Cup, meanwhile, Ernests Gulbis also prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker. The Latvian held off Andreas Seppi 7-6(6), 4-6, 7-6(3) to reach the semis.
Rafael Nadal's comeback tournament continued on Thursday as the world No. 2 defeated Peter Gojowyczk 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the China Open. Nadal saved all three of the break points he faced to book a spot in the quarterfinals after one hour and 45 minutes of play.
He's back! Yes, for the first time since Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal is playing tennis again. Always one of the best spots on the annual calendar, the Beijing-Tokyo week will be especially intriguing this time around. That’s because Nadal is returning to the court after being out of action for three months.
Ernests Gulbis and Julien Benneteau will face each other for the third time this season on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur after scoring respective quarterfinal victories on Friday. Gulbis got past Benjamin Becker 6-3, 7-5. Benneteau, the Malaysian Open runner-up in both 2012 and 2013, outlasted Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-4.
The similarities are very real. In 2007, an 18-turning-19 Ernests Gulbis was playing in his first U.S. Open. In the third round, a day-session match against veteran Spaniard Tommy Robredo was pushed into the night. It was worth the wait for Gulbis, who destroyed the world No. 8 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 29 minutes.
