On Saturday, March 3rd, Southern California tennis and actually the game itself lost a legend. Though she would never consider her years of involvement in the sport anything more than fulfilling a long-standing commitment, Carol Schneider worked tirelessly, and never sought to be in the limelight, while bringing about change.
Dorothy “Dodo” Bundy Cheney passed away peacefully at home in La Jolla, California on 23 November following a brief illness. She was 98 years old. Cheney was involved in tennis for the majority of her life, first picking up a racket at a young age and playing the game well into her 90s.
“Dodo Cheney was one of the most prolific champions in the history of tennis and the personification of tennis truly being a lifetime sport. She played competitively into her 90s, and her remarkable grace, singular class and competitive spirit made her one of our sport’s greatest ambassadors. She will be sorely missed by the sport that she loved.”
