But in her 2nd serve game, CiCi seemed to settle her nerves and play the style of tennis that has gotten her to this place – aggressive, steady, and unfazed by the literal and figurative stature of the woman standing across the net.

On Wednesday, the first round of singles tennis action will swing into action at the South Seas Island Resort Women’s Pro Classic $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit Event with young American tennis stars headlining the matches. Getting underway at not before 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday is top seed from the U.S. Grace Min who will play fellow American Maria Sanchez in the first round.
Well, that wasn't quite the night session that had taken place 24 hours (or less!) earlier. On Monday, Victoria Azarenka overcame Aleksandra Krunic in three sets before Kei Nishikori outlasted Milos Raonic in five. The end result was a tie for the latest finish in U.S. Open history, with Nishikori and Raonic wrapping things up at 2:26 a.m.
CiCi Bellis struck the first serve on the show courts shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the U.S. Open. More than 15 hours later, Labor Day action finally ended with a winning volley by Kei Nishikori. When it was all said and done, Nishikori's match against Milos Raonic tied the latest finish in tournament history at 2:26 a.m.
Serena Williams beat Taylor Townsend 6-3, 6-1, opening play with a win as she goes for a repeat title. But the winner was complimentary of her teenaged opponent. "I think it was an interesting match, she played really well, started out super strong," said Williams.
