The coverage of Elena Baltacha’s death was remarkable. The British papers were full of the terrible news; the sports pages devoted acres of space to her career and achievements, the news pages ran tributes and pictures and the obituary writers cleared their desks and rang every sportswriter they could think of for information and anecdotes.
The death of long-time British no.1 Elena Baltacha from liver cancer in May was one of the saddest news items of the 2014 tennis year but her former coach and husband Nino Severino is determined his wife’s legacy will live long.

Elena Baltacha continues to be lauded as “one of the shining lights of British women's tennis of recent generations”. Tributes continue to roll in for the former British No. 1 who died from liver cancer at the age of 30 earlier this week.
Elena, who always went by her nickname Bally, was diagnosed with liver cancer in mid-January 2014, two months after retiring from professional tennis and just a few weeks after marrying Nino Severino, her long-time coach and partner. Despite a determined battle against the disease, she passed away peacefully at home with her husband Nino by her side and surrounded by friends and family.
World No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska and the 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will take part in the Rally For Bally in Eastbourne on 15th June as support for the cause continues to grow throughout the tennis world.
The word came in this morning. Bally's life was being celebrated today by all that were there to say a final goodbye. We were told to dress in bright colors and celebrate Dear Bally's life. So I quickly changed to a very bright pink shirt...
