Chris Kermode, tournament director of the AEGON Championships which begin at London’s Queen’s Club on Monday will spend an anxious couple of days after Andy Murray, top seed, defending champion and main attraction, refused to guarantee his involvement after a physically demanding French Open.
Lleyton Hewitt, a four-time champion at The Queen’s Club, and Britain’s James Ward, who enjoyed a memorable run to the semi-finals last year, have been awarded the first two wild cards into the AEGON Championships, which takes place 11th-17th June.
Two more Top Ten players will line up alongside Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga andJuan Martin Del Potro at theAEGON Championships, the official entry list revealed today. World No.8 Janko Tipsarevic and No.9 Mardy Fish both joined the field, meaning six of the 12 highest ranked players in the world will compete at The Queen’s Club, 11th-17th June.
World No. 4 and defending champion Andy Murray has committed himself to the AEGON Championships for the next five years, ensuring that he will be playing at the tournament in his 30th year.
