Tomas Berdych struggled to close out his first-round match at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament on Tuesday, but he managed to get the job done against Tobias Kamke. Berdych, who led 6-1, 5-1, twice failed to serve out the proceedings before finally sealing the deal on his third time of asking for a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
The ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament features an incredible draw, especially by 500-point standards. Dominic Thiem, however, got a favorable one for his first-round contest.

This was tougher than most people probably expected, but Roger Federer got through in just over an hour -- important if he is to win five matches in five days. Any additional points Tomas Berdych earns here will count toward his ranking, but he can't climb this week.
