We Americans adore solid impact, the forceful propulsion of a ball leaving our racquet at Mach speeds as it heads across the net and slams into the back fence for an un-returnable winner. Our kidneys pulse out the adrenal surge and we succumb to a momentary euphoric state. The high is addictive in ways that only heroin junkies and hopeless romantics can understand.
It's springtime in Paris and we are in the first week of the French Open. Beautiful Paris. Beautiful warm days and cool nights and the excitement of the opening matches flooding throughout the city. But tennis around the world doesn't stop it's grind just because a Grand Slam gets under way.
The French Open is now into it's third day and no great surprises so far. The draw sets up really well for the favorites. This first week is all about the side stories away from the top 8 seeds, at least on the men's side. The biggest news was the withdrawal of a couple of players, Fish and Monfils.

All women who would start on wednesday had to go off site to practise and even Andy Murray spent several hours at the Stade Jean Bouin next to Roland Garros on walking distance!
