Maria Sharapova had little time to digest her 6-3, 7-6(5) loss in the final of the Australian Open against Serena Williams, with the Russian finalist flying out of Melbourne at the weekend and back to the European winter. The No. 2 who suffered her 16th straight loss to Serena in the Australian Open final, is playing Fed Cup for Russia in Krakow against Poland.
Novak Djokovic became the second man in history to win five Australian Open titles when he defeated Andy Murray 76(3) 67(4) 63 60 in the men’s final on Rod Laver Arena. Only Roy Emerson had previously won more titles, winning six between 1961 and 1967.
The world's Top 3 players have been nominated to play in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group and World Group II first round ties on 7-8 February. World No. 1 Serena Williams heads USA's line-up for the World Group II first round match-up against Argentina.

For the first time in almost two years, Mardy Fish will play competitive tennis. The 33-year-old American, whose last appearance came at the 2013 Winston-Salem Open, will participate in doubles at this upcoming week's Dallas Challenger and he is scheduled to make his singles comeback next month at the Indian Wells Masters.

When it came to interruptions, this match had almost everything. A spectator invaded the court in the second set. Everyone was trying to hear if Andy Murray's girlfriend Kim Sears would use impolite words again (there is no firm evidence either way, but she did show up in a T-shirt carrying a "parental advisory").
