The sun was shining after frankly the kind of weather I could have stayed at home for, but it was a day of mixed fortunes for some of our key ones to watch.

With all the rain that greeted my arrival in Cincinnati on the first day of the Western and Southern Open, any worries I may have had about a fear of missing out were allayed by one pretty torrential rain in the region – not good news for my well travelled, but ultimately non-rain-proof fabric Converses.

It is time to start casting our peepers over the Atlantic, although some areas in Europe are not quite ready to relinquish their hold on us. But for us the big question is – will Queen of Wimbledon, and quite the dancer at the ball Serena Williams be at Bastad? Read on!
Why settle for one Wimbledon title when you can have two in one weekend? That’s what Martina Hingis did, giving the Wimbledon Roof something to cheer about as she completed both finals under cover.
What price the adoration of the Wimbledon crowd? That is perhaps the question that defending champion Novak Djokovic is probably asking himself after defeating Roger Federer for the second time in a row, on the hallowed lawns of SW19.
