We had the two semifinals in Dubai early this morning. This is where we get to find out what kind of shape Federer, Djokovic and Murray are really in and whether or not Del Potro is ready to go another step towards regaining the form he achieved winning the US Open in 2009.
Season III. It's time to return to the little tutorial about the "Tennis Seasons" that I started in Part I of this little series. We got through the first 14 weeks of the year with the 6 weeks of the Aussie Season and 8 weeks of the Season 2. Season 3 starts the spring clay court season with events in Casablanca and Houston and ramps right up to a Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo the third week of April.
The top half of the draw in Dubai went completely according to seed today and is likely to do so right up to the final, unless Berdych somehow gets to Murray. The big Czech has lost just 7 games in 2 matches and holds a 3-1 career record against Andy, but he won't be able to save 11 out of 12 break points against the Scotsman as he did today against Lukas Lacko.
The level of the examination being administered in Dubai this week goes up significantly tomorrow. Mardy Fish was the only seed not to make the quarterfinals, losing to Mikhail Youhzny.
You probably thought there were just 4 seasons a year, seemingly even less if you live in someplace like Southern California. But the professional tennis tour has more seasons than that. Those seasons are about the surfaces and conditions and the points, the damn points.
How is the Federer/Davydenko match like Safarova/Bartoli? Well, I've been watching a little tennis the last couple of days on TennisTV from Doha, Rotterdam and Sao Paulo.
What a tremendous victory for the US Davis Cup team! Some questioned Captain Courier's wisdom in putting Mardy Fish back on the court in the doubles after pulling off a compelling 9-7 in the fifth, 5-hour, comeback win against Stan Wawrinka yesterday in Fribourg.
I got up a little late this morning and went to check the progress of the Davis Cup. First I signed on to the Davis Cup site to see the progress of the matches around the world. BTW, the Davis Cup site is great for giving you up to date, live statistics of all the matches around the world.
Just a little reminder to all you tennis junkies out there. There is a bit of a let down for all of us after the Australian Open.
The suspense and drama built as the match went on and the level of play actually improved when it seemed they should barely have been able to stand - Detailed description of the epic match...
10sChiro takes the Vampire over the Werewolf!
We've seen some phenomenal tennis the last couple of days and nights from Australia. This second week of the Australian Open has been one of the best ever.
I was really glad to see that my prediction that the crowd would be a big factor was dead wrong. I overlooked the fact that the Aussies are too fair for that.
We are down to the quarters. Everyone in the last 8 has earned their spot by going through 4 matches in the main draw. However, some have arrived with more convincing victories than others.
The Women's Quarterfinals could easily go completely according to form; that is, the top 4 seeds appear likely to fulfill their placements and reach the semifinals, with one possible exception.
