The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced that Germany’s Angelique Kerber has earned the eighth and final singles place at the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships, to be staged at the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, from October 22-27, 2013. Kerber secured her spot by advancing to the semifinals of the Generali Ladies Linz in Austria.
For the second year in a row – and only the second time in the WTA Championships’ 43-year history – each player in the singles draw will represent a different country: Serena Williams (United States), Victoria Azarenka (Belarus), Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland), Li Na (China), Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic), Sara Errani (Italy), Jelena Jankovic (Serbia) and Angelique Kerber (Germany).
The singles draw ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 20, at 6:00 p.m. at the Polat Renaissance Istanbul Hotel and can be viewed online via WTA Live on wtatennis.com. The two alternate positions will be determined in the current and upcoming WTA events, and will also be announced prior to the draw ceremony on WTA Live.
Kerber is appearing at the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships for the second time, after making her event debut in 2012.
