Melbourne Match Day 2  |

Today was a day of planning, scheduling, recovery, communicating teamwork and support! All of the above leads to trust in our team!

We had 3 matches on our schedule and 1 practice session! We started the day at 9:45 with a 30 min warm-up of Ayumi Morita! At 10:15 then a warm-up with Maria Kirilenko! At 11 am, an hour practice session with Caroline (so she can get out of the site after lunch!) And at 12 noon another 30 min warm-up with Sorana Cirstea!

After Sorana’s hit I met up with Esther Vergeer coincidentally on the big screen! She had a training planned at 4 but I told her with 3 players playing I would not be able to make it! I thought I would have time for lunch but Maria went on court at 1!

From the moment that Maria got on court Mats and I shared coaching responsibilities so we could give our support to all the girls!

Making a long story short, Maria won in 3 tough sets 8-6 in the 3rd which took over 3 hours! Ayumi won in 2 and so did Sorana! So it was great to see all of our girls go through to the 2nd round!

Now it is almost 6 pm and I have been going non-stop. In between catching up with the players (Maria in the gym) after the matches and writing this blog I had some pine nuts (my New love), a banana, and a pear! But had plenty of water and luckily the weather is still cool!

Now time to head back and have a little work out and some “Sven time” to reflect on a strong day!

(Oh and I forgot! The schedule came out for tomorrow so we will all start from the top again with planning, scheduling, organizing, communicating, with all the players, coaches, and parents!)

[Correction: an earlier version incorrectly stated Sven drank a beer, due to auto-correct error. Instead, he is actually eating quite healthy and staying fit!]
