What a day it was! With a ton of matches and some rain delays in between! Not to forget all of the practise sessions for those players that were not on the schedule for the first day.
It is not only tennis leading up to the to first round matches! Over the next 2 days players are required to give blood for their biological passport! As most of you know, who ever given blood it is not fun and actually may give you some muscles sourness. Not the best timing during a 2 week event where you need to be at your best and every little thing counts!
Yesterday I had to split my eyes between 2 girls hitting at the same time. As most of them want to get their practise in the morning and leave as soon as possible before it gets to busy in the player lounge and around the grounds! Timing is everything
Caroline and Ana preparing for their match on Tuesday!
After their hit I had 2 other great girls on court and they had to wait around for their practise as they were moved courts. Flexibility is another must have attribute as a player and coach! Always ready to adapt and adjust.
Daniela and Maria took the time to catch up on things before their match on Tuesday
While the practices got out of the way and players went home. The other part of the job started. Watching matches and supporting our girls within the program. Sorana Cirstea won her match in 3 sets. Play was stopped for a little but due to some rain and the high tech towel line cleaners were ready to provide their services! The fans were complaining why does the US Open does not have e covers like the French and Wimbledon.?
Kiki Mladenovic won her match in 3 tough sets but unfortunately hurt herself during the match!
As the day and the matches were progressing the sun was setting and Monica Puig was in a big battle on court 7 infront of big crowd supporting the crowd favorite. She ended up loosing in 3 but she showed a lot of heart and gained a lot of new fans.
As the clouds were coming in we knew that we would get some rain so I got out the grounds 13 hours later than my arrival in the morning!
Because the schedule came out and I knew I would be on another 7:30 bus departure ready for day 2
