We are on Thursday before the Open and now the real deal starts and the last thing you want is a day that makes it even more challenging than it already is for so many people!
It was one if those days that you think you got it all figured out and than all of sudden things do not go the way you plan! We were supposed to leave at 7:15 with a private transportation car with Monica Puig.
At 7:25 no car available and we ended up having to adjust our plans because the car was not on schedule according to the general manager of the Bus transportation. So we hopped on the bus and luckily could get to the Open around 8!
Why start so early? Well because that is the only time you will get a court by yourself! Until everybody starts thinking the same and when you get there you are told you are sharing the court and are 4 players trying to get ready for a big event!
So Parents and Coaches around the globe, listen good! The best players in the world at the biggest stage of tennis do have 4 players on one court to practise and prepare for their big event.
However there are exceptions to the rule when you are seeded in the top 32 or are a former champion you get special privileges. Like Ana Ivanovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova. They did not have to share and got a full court.
However if you are seeded or not when the rain comes all rules are the same no play on the tournament courts.
Yesterday was also a day of rain and complicated the schedule completely.
With all the qualifying matches still having to be played and so many players on town to prepare it became a fight of time for courts! Some of the players did not even get a chance to play at all and made a day of fitness, like Kiki Mladenovic.
When the rain stops an army of drying vehicles (not sure what they are called) come out and dry the courts, no such things as covers or a roof that can help!
However different rules apply for Some! for those lucky enough get one of the 3 indoor courts at the National indoor center attached to the US Open facility!
Daniela Hantuchova her trainer Tiffany (with wimbledon Umbrella) and Agnieszka Radwanska on their way to get their indoor court!
On my way to the indoor center I also noticed a dutch tradition that many fans will enjoy during the days of their stay at the open! All It is missing is that is called “HOLLAND HEINEKEN HOUSE”
Look forward to continue my countdown to the 2013 US Open!
