Precious Andy Murray tennis gear is expected to fetch a good price for charity after the British Wimbledon winner donated a signed adidas replica shirt and a tennis bag to a newspaper goodwill fund in his native Scotland. The Sunday Mail’s Centenary Fund is to benefit charities including those supporting breast cancer prevention, homeless ness and child care.
“I’m very proud of my Scottish roots and am always keen to support good causes that benefit local communities in Scotland,” said Murray “The last year has been amazing and I hope that the prizes that (clothing sponsor) adidas have provided on my behalf can be put to good use in raising money and the profile of the great charities involved.”
In addition to home-grown Scottish charities, the effort will also to help fund school lunches outside of Murray’s home country. The world No. 3 is beginning his US Open title defence in New York.
