Canadian Open

Singles – Second Round: (2) A Murray def. M Granollers 6-4 7-6(7-2)

Marcel Granollers sees his winning streak end at six, meaning that he will lose the Top Forty spot he just regained. This pretty well ends his hopes for a U. S. Open seed.

Singles – Second Round: (4) R Nadal def. (WC) J Levine 6-2 6-0

Five Canadians made it to the second round here, but most of them fell on day three….

Singles – Second Round: (5) T Berdych def. A Dolgopolov 6-3 6-4

Alexandr Dolgopolov will remain below #35. He still has an outside shot at a U. S. Open seed, but his chances now look very bad.

Singles – Second Round: B Paire def. (8) S Wawrinka 6-2 7-6(7-2)

Benoit Paire will probably hit the Top 25, but Stanislas Wawrinka loses his chance to rise above #9. His Top Ten spot looks almost sure, but Richard Gasquet may be able to stay ahead of him, and Kei Nishikori might pass him.

Singles – Second Round: (Q) M Matosevic def. (10) T Haas 5-0, retired

Tommy Haas can forget about the Top Ten. The best he can hope for is to be #12.

Singles – Second Round: E Gulbis def. (13) F Fognini 6-3 1-6 6-1

No move for Fabio Fognini, either; the best he can hope for is to stay #16. Ernests Gulbis is up to around #35; he just might have a shot at a U. S. Open seed.

Singles – Second Round: (15) J Janowicz def. (WC) F Dancevic 7-6(7-5) 3-6 6-4

Jerzy Janowicz is now firmly in the Top Fifteen.

Singles – Second Round: D Istomin def. (WC) F Peliwo 6-3 3-6 6-3

This is probably the best result of Filip Peliwo’s career, but it’s Denis Istomin closing in on a return to the Top Fifty.

Singles – Second Round: (WC) V Pospisil def. R Stepanek 6-2 6-4

At least Canada has one survivor — their best player other than Milos Raonic. Radek Stepanek may make the Top Fifty despite the loss.

Doubles – First Round: Berdych/Llodra def. Klizan/Tipsarevic 6-2 6-3

Doubles – First Round: Fleming/A Murray def. Benneteau/Zimonjic 1-6 6-4 10-6
