Agnieszka Radwanska’s Nude Photos Raise Fuss in Poland

Some in conservative Poland are up in arms over the discreet nude shoot done by Agnieszka Radwanska for the ESPN magazine Body Issue, where the WTA No. 4 stripped down for a shot showing her from a side angle dipping her toes into a swimming pool full of floating tennis balls.

While the recent Wimbledon semi-finalist has no issues at all with the presentation, that’s not the case for some in her homeland, where she underwent a Catholic upbringing. “It’s a shame that someone who has declared their love for Jesus is now promoting the mentality of men looking at a woman as a thing rather than a child of God worthy of respect and love,” said a top Catholic figure. “If she meets a man who she can truly love and establish a happy family and raise Catholic children, then she would probably have to hide these pictures from relatives.”

Radwanska herself seems pleased enough with the shots for the annual issue featuring naked athletes from many disciplines. She followed other tennis players including Serena Williams and Vera Zvonareva who have posed for past issues.

“I feel fortunate that I stay pretty lean without having to do much gym work,” she told the magazine. Wimbledon 2013 was a record-setter for Polish tennis, with not only Radwanska’s semi, but also a semi-final for Jerzy Janowicz, who beat compatriot Lukasz Kubot in a quarter-final at the All England Club.
