Barcelona

Rain washed out more than half the day’s action in Barcelona. It will be a long Friday….

Singles – Third Round: (4) N Almagro def. (15) M Granollers 6-3 6-4

This will leave Marcel Granollers around #35. He of course still has chances for a Roland Garros seed, but it’s getting less likely.

Singles – Third Round: (7) J Monaco def. (10) J Chardy 6-0 7-6(13-11)

Juan Monaco ends Jeremy Chardy’s Top 25 hopes.

Singles – Third Round: (16) T Bellucci def. D Tursunov 4-6 6-1 6-3

So much for any thoughts that Dmitry Tursunov had suddenly turned into a great clay player because he beat David Ferrer…. This should put Thomaz Bellucci into the Top Forty.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (3) Lindstedt/Nestor def. Dodig/Melo 6-4 7-6(8-6)

Bucharest

Singles – Second Round: (1) (WC) J Tipsarevic def. S Giraldo 6-3 6-3

It probably won’t surprise you to learn that this makes no difference at all to Janko Tipsarevic — he hasn’t earned any points yet, and he can’t climb in the rankings no matter what he does here.

Singles – Second Round: V Hanescu def. (4) M Youzhny 6-4 6-3

Mikhail Youzhny was facing the local favorite, which probably didn’t help, but this is still pretty surprising. And it will cost him his Top Thirty ranking.

Singles – Second Round: (5) F Mayer def. D Goffin 7-6(7-2) 1-6 6-3

No move yet for Florian Mayer. Or, obviously, for David Goffin, who is increasingly being labelled a major disappointment.

Singles – Second Round: G Garcia-Lopez def. (Q) S Stakhovsky 1-6 6-3 6-4

Interesting that Guillermo Garcia-Lopez didn’t play Barcelona. But it’s looking like a smart move — he might not have done so well among all those Spanish clay experts.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (1) Mirnyi/Tecau def. (WC) Hanescu/Muller 7-6(7-1) 6-2

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Seppi/Troicki def. Emmrich/Nieminen 6-2 7-6(7-3)

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Dlouhy/Marach def. Inglot/Rosol 6-2 6-4 .
