British-based XIX Entertainment has entered into a joint venture with Mahesh Bhupathi’s company Globosport.
XIX Entertainment, which represents Andy Murray as well as host of other celebrities such as soccer’s David and Victoria Beckham, and singers Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, is owned by Simon Fuller.
Bhupathi’s company Globosport is attempting to set up and IPL-style league across the Indian Subcontinent and Asia over three weeks during tennis’ off-season at year end.
Andy Murray is an important part of those plans.
“The partnership will provide Andy with the global resource, media expertise and strategic skills of Fuller’s XIX Entertainment, and the credibility, drive and specialist tennis skills of Globosport,” the firms said in a statement.
While still maintaining a doubles career, Bhupathi has run his sports management and TV and film production company.
“Simon’s experience and Mahesh’s understanding of the sport will create the perfect team for my off court interests and will allow me to continue to dedicate myself and focus on my goals on the court,” Murray said
Agent Ugo Colombini will also join Murray’s team. Bhupathi and Colombini will also try and get more endorsements for Murray, who is said to have the potential to earn $20 million annually and earned around $12 million in 2012.
Fuller is best known as the creator of the Idol franchise, including the extremely popular US TV show “American Idol.” He first came to fame as the manager of the pop band “The Spice Girls,” of which Victoria Beckham was a part.
He has been called by Time as one of the most influential businessmen in the world, and was also was named by Billboard as Britain’s top music manager.
He was also was behind Beckham’s $250 million move to Los Angles and has a financial interest in Formula 1.
Fuller is said to be worth around $600 million
“He has a vision for this part of the world and we are excited that he has chosen to partner us,” Bhupathi said.
Murray added: “I believe a mix of Simon’s experience and Mahesh’s understanding of the sport will create the perfect team for my off-court interests and will allow me to continue to dedicate myself and focus on my goals on the court.”
