Australian Open

Singles – Fourth Round: (1) Victoria Azarenka def. Elena Vesnina 6-1 6-1
Obviously there wasn’t much resistance from Elena Vesnina here, but still, she won eight straight and put herself at probably #33 — and she is still in the doubles.

Singles – Fourth Round: (3) Serena Williams def. (14) Maria Kirilenko 6-2 6-0
Four bagels so far for Serena Williams; Maria Sharapova has five. Serena will clinch the #2 ranking if she wins her next match. Maria Kirilenko will probably stay #15.

Singles – Fourth Round: Svetlana Kuznetsova def. (10) Caroline Wozniacki 6-2 2-6 7-5
Svetlana Kuznetsova dominated the first set of this. Then her brain wandered off for a set and a half. But she broke late in the third, then served it out. Thereby costing Caroline Wozniacki her Top Ten ranking. Kuznetsova is now just below the Top Fifty.

Singles – Fourth Round: (29) Sloane Stephens def. Bojana Jovanovski 6-1 3-6 7-5
That makes it official: Sloane Stephens is now the #2 American; we show her at #18, with Varvara Lepchenko down to #21. Bojana Jovanovski is around #38.

Doubles – Third Round: (7) Llagostera Vives/J Zheng def. Black/Rodionova 7-5 6-2
Even with the loss, it was a pretty impressive comeback for Cara Black.

Doubles – Third Round: Barty/Dellacqua def. (14) Grandin/Uhlirova 7-6(7-3) 6-3

Doubles – Third Round: Pavlyuchenkova/Safarova def. Jankovic/Lucic-Baroni 2-1, retired

Doubles – Third Round: Lepchenko/S Zheng def. Date-Krumm/Parra Santonja 3-6 6-3 7-6(7-5)

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (4) Makarova/Vesnina def. Soler-Espinosa/Suarez Navarro 1-6 7-5 6-4
Back-to-back Melbourne semifinals for Elena Vesnina, who has now clinched her Top Ten spot. Ekaterina Makarova continues to slug it out with Nuria Llagostera Vives for the final Top Ten spot. We currently show the Top Ten as follows:
 1..(1) VINCI ............. 9170*
2..(2) ERRANI .............9170*
3..(3) HLAVACKOVA .........7340
4..(4) HRADECKA ...........7340
5..(5) PETROVA ........... 7310
6..(7) KIRILENKO ......... 6430
7..(6) RAYMOND ........... 6405
8..(8) HUBER ............. 6290
9..(9) VESNINA ........... 6110*
10.(11) MAKAROVA ...........5570*

Mixed Doubles – Second Round: (3) Mirza/B Bryan def. Spears/Lipsky 4-6 6-1 10-4 (Match TB)

Mixed Doubles – Second Round: Hradecka/Cermak def. (7) Hlavackova/Bracciali 6-4 7-6(9-7)
And here we have another contest between partners in women’s doubles. This is a clear triumph for Mixed rankings; neither team would have been seeded in Mixed, but Hradecka/Cermak were several spots ahead of Hlavackova/Bracciali.

Mixed Doubles – Second Round: Hsieh/Bopanna def. Hantuchova/Fognini 6-1 7-5
