Andrea Petkovic will start over once again with the lonely process of rehabilitation after undergoing surgery in Germany to repair a torn meniscus.
The heartbreak which curtailed her appearance last week at the Hopman Cup in Perth alongside partner Tommy Haas will keep the hard-luck German off the court for at least another two months.
Social-media queen Petkovic tweeted news of her condition and is mentally prepared to miss the Australian Open for a second straight edition after reaching the 2011 quarter-finals.
She is also out of her nation’s Fed Cup tie in February. The 25-year-old has been plagued by injuries in her career. She was out for eight months in 2012 and dropped from the WTA top 10 to her current 126th ranking.
