In the wake of Lance Armstrong being stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and being publicly exposed as being a drugs cheat, the Spanish TenisVal tennis academy has severed all links with the doctor who worked with the US Postal Service cycling team.
Luis Garcia Del Moral who was working with tennis players in the Valencia academy at the same time as he was advising Armstrong and several other USPS cyclists, with whom he implemented a “team-wide doping program”.
The United States Anti Doping Agency banned Del Moral for life in July and now Pancho Alvarino, owner of the TenisVal academy, said: “After Armstrong’s news, no player from TenisVal has contact or any kind of relationship with him.”
Alvarino revealed that many TenisVal players” consulted Del Moral for preseason blood tests, strength tests and for injuries and the academy then used the information to tailor personalized training programs.
“Dr. Del Moral has been always a very important personality in sports medicine in Valencia and he has worked with many sports people and sports teams from many countries, as everybody knows,” he said.
However Alavrino was insistent there was no deal Moral advising the players to resort to drugs or processes outlawed by the World Anti Doping Agency. If he had found any evidence Alvarino vowed: “I would have denounced the doctor, as well as the player.”
