(Above) Fraser Russell hard at work. Chris Mathews is in the far corner. You are seeing the practice court booker as well as the HEAD CONCIERGE working from the players area at The Queens club. Yes, Fraser is on two phones at once… On one he was booking a hotel and on the other dinner reservations for Grigor?
Two of The STEWARDS at QUEENS. They are a team of over a hundred. Kind , thoughtful courteous people that help make QUEENS the worlds best 500 tourney. It’s better than any 1,000 series event that 10sBalls has ever attending. Stephen Farrow is without a doubt a brilliant man who works tirelessly ( the endless invisible hours ) to make this event so “brilliant.” This event also understands more than any other event that a tennis event falls under the category of the “Hospitality business”.
You are looking at two of the worlds finest stringers. On the left is Chris and on the right is his friend and mentor for over 20 years the Roger Federer of stringers •Roger Dalton. We spent time daily discussing strings , rackets and anything tennis. We laughed that Roger said when Xavier Malisse was playing they had to have a stringer standing by a machine ready at all times because the “X MAN ” broke so many strings. We find that so funny because we saw “X” break more frames than strings … a debatable issue. We will ask Xavier tomorrow when we have dinner plans.
This is one of the machines that the QUEENS grounds crew uses to “Chalk” the lines. If you look closely you see the mixing stick and the paint brush. It’s possibly the toughest job making those likes perfectly straight. Also note 10sBalls feels that the center court at Queens is the worlds finest grass court. It’s held up so well under very hot conditions and a weeks worth of play. Bravo to the hardworking crew.
