Simona Halep and Karolina Pliskova Begin Battle for WTA World No.1 at Roland Garros
World No.3 Karolina Pliskova is one win away from securing the WTA World No.1 ranking at Roland Garros, and will need to win her semifinal match against Simona Halep, who is also in contention to take the top spot on the WTA Rankings.
2014 Roland Garros finalist Halep, who earned a comeback victory over Elina Svitolina in today’s quarterfinal match, will need to clinch the title in Paris in order to become the new WTA World No.1.
If Pliskova fails to reach the final and Halep does not win the title at Roland Garros, Angelique Kerber will retain the WTA World No.1 ranking.
Pliskova and Halep are set to face off on Thursday, June 8. Click here to read more and view the ranking point scenarios.
