The Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition in Abu Dhabi has recruited six of the world’s top 10 players, including the injured Rafael Nadal for the December 27-29 event in Zayed Sports City . Nadal will join Andy Murray. Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Janko Tipsarevic.
The six players will chase the winner-take-all prize fund of $250,000, but all of them are paid appearance fees and the top players have been said to collect more than $1 million apiece just for showing up
Nadal hasn’t played since losing in the second round of Wimbledon as he is recovering from a left knee injury. He has not committed to a return date but he has also said that he would like to back for sure to play the Australian Open in January
“This year’s line-up of players are truly at the top of their game. It guarantees another tournament of world-class tennis here in Abu Dhabi .
The popularity of tennis has grown so much over the years, and the crowds are as passionate as anywhere in the world,” said John Lickrish, of Flash Entertainment, which runs the event.
