Even former players are starting to take Andy Murray seriously after the Scot made his Grand Slam breakthrough with a US Open title to back up his summer Olympic gold performance. Now, Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean, a one-time Top 5 player, has chimed in with an encouraging opinion of the Scot’s recent progress.

According to Grosjean, there is more to come from the No. 3, even if Murray is in the midst of one of the strongest-ever tennis generations headed by Roger Federer. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. “There have been many great champions over the years, but people shouldn’t forget about Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Agassi, Sampras and all the others. There has never been a stronger time than now.

“It’s been tough for Andy, playing at the same time as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. He’s come close before, losing his first four Grand Slam finals. To finally win his first, it shows he has the talent to now go on to win more Slams.”

Murray has shown he is becoming quite the equal of his more celebrated rivals after beating Djokovic and Federer back-to-back at the Games and knocking off Djokovic this month to win the Open in New York.
