No sooner had they written another line in the tennis record books through a 12th Grand Slam doubles title achieved at the US Open, the American Bryan brothers were looking ahead to next week’s big job on court in Spain .
There was no time to waste for the pair, who boarded a flight at the weekend to Europe to prepare for the Davis Cup World group semi-final in Spain on clay against a team missing the injured Rafael Nadal.
“We’re extremely pumped to leave 2012 with a Grand Slam title. I think it’s eight years in a row now we’ve at least got away with one of them, which we’re very proud of,” said Mike Bryan, who suggested that a Davis Cup title in December would be the icing on the cake.
“We’ve got to finish it off strong with Davis Cup,” said Mike Bryan. “You’re only as good as your last match. So we’re leaving (for Spain ), going to get our clay court shoes on, and hopefully help the US out.”
“After that match we can exhale a little bit,” added Bob.
