(After her tough opener win over Julie Coin of France Rybarikova again was kept on the
court for almost three hours over a game opponent in Sevartova. Dealing with the midday
New York humidity on a court next to ongoing construction she again kept her composure and
advanced to the Main Draw)

(The 17 year old American with a big win over the #4 seed on Court 17. Despite losing
almost every stat she won the only ones that matters, games and points. Daniilidou
who has had a very strong year was obviously flustered by the pro-American crowd and
lack of challenges on line calls she disagreed with. By the third set Crawford found her
big first serve and powered her way into the Main Draw)
Main Draw opponent – (91)Laura Robson (GBR) – 1st meeting
(The last time we saw 18 year old Laura Robson was in the Mixed Double finals
teamed up with fellow Brit and #4 in the world Andy Murray. However even though
Robson is only 18 she made it through qualies last year on her third try and all the
way to the 2nd round.)

(Rodionova coasted through qualies dropping only 11 games in three matches. Of six
Australians to start in both draws Anastasia is the only survivor from down under)

(Playing on Court 11 Tsurenko dealt with the noisy passing traffic and survived the three
set challenge to final make it through the qualies after disappointing first round loses in
her last two attempts to make the big field.)
Main Draw opponent – (106) Casey Dellacqua (AUS) – 1st meeting
(Casey Dellacqua is coming to the US Open on the tail of her semifinal loss to Jelena
Jankovic at the Texas Tennis Open and is playing excellent tennis. A real challenge for
Tsurenko who’s game has been inconsistent for most of the 2012 season)

Main Draw opponent – (Q)(137) Stefanie Voegele (SUI) – 2nd meeting
(These two met in the ITF Osprey back in March and Gallovits-Hall won in straight sets.
That was a clay surface though. They are the also the only two qualifiers to meet in
the 1st round quaranteeing at least one in the 2nd round)

(One of the stranger matches of the day. After splitting the first two sets, the young Brit
watched a 5-1 lead disintegrate but held on to win the last two games after Zhang
behind a loud cheering section rallied gamely.)
Main Draw opponent – (59) Timea Babos (HUN) – 1st meeting
(The 19 year Babos has been playing excellent tennis and making it to the main draw
in New Haven only to lose in the first round to (27) Andrea Petkovic (GER). A difficult
draw for the shaky Konta.)

(With lots of support for the Columbian who got into the draw when Olivia Rogowska
backed out from her slot as the #9 seed. it was enough to overcome two breakers and
the #26 seed from Belgium moves on.)
Main Draw opponent – (60) Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (CZE) – 4th meeting
(Met three prior times with Flipkens winning twice, once on hard and once on clay. The
last time in 2011 during the second week of the Fedex Cup with Flipkins winning in
straight sets. Definitely a favorable match-up for this qualifier.)

Main Draw opponent – #25 Seed (28) Yanina Wickmayer (BEL)
(Wickmayer used a wild card to enter the Texas Open to be knocked out in the second
round by the aforementioned Casey Dellacqua. Glushko played the qualies with a ton
of confidence and should be game for this one if she control the nerves.

(The American never was in this match and at times looked disinterested. Maybe she
wasn’t feeling well. Her second straight qualie final loss dropping her last set to
Nicole Gibbs last week at New Haven.)

(Earlier in the month Ivanovic got ousted from The Rogers Cup by being bageled 60 60
by Texas Open winner Roberta Vinci. This is her next game. Not sure if that bodes well
for Svitolina but it can’t hurt)

Main Draw opponent – (111) Irina Falconi (USA) – 2nd meeting
(Back in 2010 that met in Grapevine, TX in an ITF event and Puchkova won in three
sets. Both have played a lot of tennis since so probably doesn’t have a lot of meaning.
Still a good draw for Olga.)

(Trying to build on her spirited win over American Madison Keys the night before the
young Argentine jumped out to a one set lead only to falter against the 10 year pro
from Russia who returns to the main draw for the 6th time and is hoping to defend
her 3rd showing from last year.)
Main Draw opponent – (58) Silvia Soler-Espinosa (ESP) – 2nd meeting
(Met back in 2008 on clay and Kudryavtseva won in straight sets. At the time Soler-
espinosa was ranked in the 200ís. Expect a much tougher challenge for Alla this time
around.

(After qualifying for the main draw in 2008 and direct entries the following two years,
Voegele fell short in qualies last year and returns the hard way again. Her familiarity with
NY showed as she easily handled El Tabakh who now has fallen short for the 4th straight
year.)
