Mouratoglou Is A Positive Influence On Serena Williams

Serena Williams’ dominance since her shock French Open first round demise, highlighted by Wimbledon titles at singles and doubles and a pair of Olympic gold medals, could be directly correlated to her using Frenchman Patrick Mouratoglou as her coaching consultant.

The former world no.1 spent time at Mouratoglou’s famed academy just outside Paris and the 42 year-old was a constant factor in Team Serena throughout the English summer. The productive relationship is expected to continue and although the Mouratoglou is reluctant to take any major credit he does admit: I believe that Serena came back to her best level.

Mouratoglou, who also works with Grigor Dimitrov and numbers Serena’s former rival Martina Hingis amongst his roster of coaches, continued: It is difficult to say if she plays today better than she ever did, but she isn’t very far from it. She is more experienced, her serve is better than it has never been, and this makes her a tougher opponent than ever.

Talking to Tennis Space, he insisted there is no reason to believe Serena’s career success cannot extend for several more years. Serena is a special champion, he said. There is one Serena Williams. She is dominating women’s tennis for many years.

When one has won so many Grand Slams, one has to proceed in a different schedule taking into consideration the main goals of the year in order to be ready and at the top in those key moments. Of course playing less and in better conditions is one of the keys for lasting longer.
