Some notes from Tuesday’s day session at the Western & Southern Open:

 

– Tommy Haas defeated David Nalbandian 67(0) 76(4) 63 in 3:22

It is tied for the longest non-Olympic match in 2012 on the ATP World Tour with Denis Istomin’s 76 67 75 win over Juan Ignacio Chela in the Indian Wells second round.

It is the second longest match at the Western & Southern Open since such a record keeping began in 1991. Last year Rafael Nadal defeated Fernando Verdasco in a record 3:38, 76 67 76 in the Round of 16.

– The Tuesday afternoon session became sold out, and grounds passes have gone on sale. They will remain available until 5 p.m. Tickets remain available for this evening’s session, which will include Serena Williams vs Eleni Danilidou and Tomas Berdych vs Yen-Hsun Lu.

 

– Nadia Petrova retired from her match with Ekaterina Makarova with a dizziness.

 

– Tamira Paszek retired from her match with Sofia Arvidsson with a migraine.

 

– Gilles Simon withdrew prior to his match against Marcos Baghdatis with a shoulder injury. He was replaced by lucky loser Alejandro Falla.

 

– Three-time Western & Southern Open champions and the Olympic doubles gold medal winning team of twins Bob & Mike Bryan will throw out the first pitch prior to this evening’s Cincinnati Reds game at Great American Ball Park.

 

– Earlier today, tournament participants Lucie Hradecka, who won the doubles silver medal at the Olympics, Aisam Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer visited with patients at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
