Life has changed for Francesca Schiavone since she won Roland Garros. Despite leading Italy in several extremely successful Fed Cup campaigns it would be fair to say that the Tour veteran wasn’t an instantly recognizable face even in her home country where soccer grabs most of the attention from sports fans. Now, though, things are a little different.
“I’m walking in the street and they say, ‘Hello, are you Francesca? You look smaller than on TV.’ I say, ‘No, don’t tell me this. I work hours and hours to become big.’ No, but I think the people enjoyed my big win. There were like two or three million, if I’m not mistaken, watching me. In Italy, that’s a lot. It’s fantastic. I can say thanks also, because after so many years of hard work, I’m really happy to receive these good emotions from the people.”
