It looks like Comcast will pull out all stops to prevent the Federal Communications Commission ruling that mandates that it must place Tennis Channel on the same cable systems that carry two sports channels that it owns – NBC Sports Network and Golf Channel.
On Wednesday, the cable giant sued the FCC and asked a federal appeals court to throw out the FCC ruling, which found it improperly discriminated against the Tennis Channel by putting it on a higher, more expensive tier than the sports properties that it owns.
Comcast said that as a result of the ruling it might end having to pay Tennis Channel millions of dollars more, a desired result for the Santa Monica-based Tennis Channel but not one for Comcast, as it would not only be costly, but also open up the door for other independently owned channels to ask for the same distribution
If Comcast is forced to comply by their ruling (it has a little over seven weeks to do so) it will have to add Tennis Channel into an additional 18 million households.
