Novak Djokovic isn’t only aiming to win a singles gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics Tennis Event, but he is also hoping to meet as many fellow Olympians as possible.

After Djokovic beat American Andy Roddick 6-2, 6-1 on Tuesday, the 25-year-old Sernian admitted that winning a singles gold medal would be “probably right up there with all the Grand Slams that I [have] won, because I am playing here for my country.

“[It is] something that we, as tennis players, don’t get to experience too much because we are individual athletes. We are proud to wear the tee-shirts and track suits with the name of our country.”

Djokovic, who won the 2008 Beijing Olympics singles bronze medal, has been staying at a house in Wimbledon with his team mates Janko Tipsarevic, Viktor Troicki and Nenad Zimonjic.

In his spare time, Djokovic has been trying to track down fellow Olympians, such as Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, for photos to add to his private album.

“I’m the one who chases down the big stars for pictures,” he said. “It’s an incredible experience to be out there in the village.” Djokovic recently met Russian ice hockey player Alexander Ovechkin and they reached an agreement.

“We have an agreement that I’ll give him a racquet, [if] he gives me a stick. At the end of the tournament, hopefully that will happen.

“I wanted first to see all of the Serbian athletes, because we are quite far away [in Wimbledon from the Olympic Village in East London]… So every opportunity we have, we get to go there.”
