The India Open will mark the return of professional women’s tennis to India since 2008 (Hyderabad from 2003-2005, Bangalore from 2006-08).
The India Open will be the region’s second event as part of the WTA Challenger Series, as Taipei will play host to the inaugural tournament. The WTA Challenger Series was created to showcase women’s tennis in emerging markets with strong fan-bases. For these events, prize money will be totaling $125,000 and 160 ranking points for the champion, while featuring a 32-player singles main draw, 16-player doubles draw and a 16-player qualifying competition.
