American and two time champion Sam Queerey is set to face qualifier Ricardas Berankis for the 2012 Farmers Classic title. Querrey earned his spot in the finals after defeating fellow American Rajeev Ram in a hard fought Semifinal match 6-3, 7-6(3). Querrey’s serve and forehand were dominant as he was able to come back from 2-4 down in the second set to claim it in a tiebreak.
His opponent in the will be 22 year old qualifier Ricardas Berankis who proved too solid for sixth seeded Marinko Matosevic. Despite his small stature, it was an overpowering serve and forehand from the little Lithuanian that proved the difference in the match as he emerged with a 7-5, 6-1 victory. This is Berankis’ first final appearance in an ATP 250 level tournament, and he and his coach Rimavydas Mugevicius who had flown in for the occasion were able to share an embrace in the moments following his victory.
The 2012 singles final will be played Sunday at 1pm in Straus Stadium, and will be televised on ESPN2.
Delgado/Skupski vs. Bemelmans/Malisse
In doubles action, it will be third seeded Jamie Delgado and Ken Skupski taking on Xavier Malisse and Ruben Bemelmans for the 2012 doubles crown. Delgado and Skupski edged the German tandem ofTobias Kamke and Bjorn Phau 7-6(4), 7-6(8). Their opponents Malisse and Bemelmans took out the hometown favorites Querrey and partnerSteve Johnson 6-4, 6-4. Malisse is looking to defend his 2011 Farmers Classic doubles title which he won with Mark Knowles. The last players to repeat as doubles champions were Bob and Mike Bryan who repeated most recently in 2009 and 2010.

Military Appreciation Day Sunday
The Farmers Classic takes pride in recognizing its military members, veterans and their families by providing free tickets for all day and evening sessions throughout the tournament. Complimentary tickets are available to active and reserve military members, veterans and their families with proper military ID (limit six tickets per family, per session). Additionally, the SCTA will be helping to send care packages to service members who are deployed in Afghanistan as part of an Adopt-a-Unit effort.
