Novak Djokovic had it all in China, winning back-to-back Beijing trophies and coming to the Shanghai Masters as one of the title favorites on an eight-match win streak in the Peoples republic. But the Serb’s semifinal run-in with Roger Federer ended dreams of glory for this year at this Masters 1000 event.
Djokovic still has his goals to aim for as the ATP season begins its wrap-up with four weeks of regular play remaining. “There’s still a lot of events to come,” said Djokovic, who will lose his No. 2 ranking spot today through his loss to Federer, swapping places with the Swiss and dropping back to third.
“Davis Cup is probably the number one priority for me this year next to the London finals,” said Djokovic, who will lead Serbia in Belgrade in a month and a half in the final against France.
The Serb said that his minor ranking fall is not a tragedy. “We’ve exchanged that spot a couple times already this year, it’s not a big deal.
“I’m happy with the way I am playing at this moment. I just hope that I will continue that way. If I continue playing this well, if I continue making good results, I’m sure I will get another chance to get back to No. 2.”
Djokovic will take a few weeks off before resuming at the Basel event in Federer’s home town, which the Serb won a year ago over the Swiss crowd hero.
