Kim Clijsters won’t back down from her vow that this will be her last Wimbledon, with the four-time major winner determined to give her all in her final appearance.

The Belgian, 29, and the mother of one, says her fitness is good heading into the fortnight

after withdrawing as a precaution last weekend in the Netherlands with an old abdominal muscle problem threatened to flare.

But Clijters has her reasons for finally hanging up her racquet – this time for good, she says after playing the Olympics and a final US Open, the major she has won three times. “I’m old to play the game that I want to play physically. I’ve put my body through enough strain and everything. The lifestyle I’ve had for the last 15, 20 years. It’s been great. I wouldn’t change it for a thing.

“But I’m not going to be the type of player that’s going to change the way I play or the way that I move. I naturally have that strong movement, powerful shots, and that’s been able to have me on top of women’s tennis.

“Physically I need to be thankful for that, but, yeah, it’s normal that that’s not going to last 20 years.”
