Barry MacKay, everybody’s favorite TV commentator, tournament promoter, tour player and college tennis champion passed away over the weekend in San Francisco said to be due to a longtime illness.
All long-time tennis people seem to have an anecdote involving the popular MacKay. “Mine occurred annually when he passed me sitting on a bench at the US Open. I would call out a greeting, calling him Mr. Cow Palace, referring to his annual promotion of a pro tournament in the San Francisco’s venue years ago. He always grinned and waved his hand, said Bob Larson, publisher of this daily tennis publication.
