The top two seeded teams completed double duty at the AEGON Championships on Friday to reach the semi-finals.
World No. 1 and recent Roland Garros titlists Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor defeated wild cards Lleyton Hewitt and Andy Roddick 6-2, 7-5 in the second round, and followed it up with a 7-6(7), 6-4 victory over fifth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna.
Mirnyi and Nestor did not drop serve in either match and will face eighth seeds Eric Butorac and Paul Hanley next. The American/Australian duo dismissed Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 6-2, 6-4, taking 28 of their 30 first serve points.
Second seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, who finished runner-up last weekend in Paris to Mirnyi and Nestor, also won both of their matches in straight sets. The defending Queen’s Club champions started off by beating Alex Bogomolov Jr. and James Cerretani 6-1, 7-6(1), and then eliminated sixth-seeded British pair Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.
In second-round action, Xavier Malisse and Dick Norman upset No. 3 seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 6-4, 6-2. Malisse and Norman broke the Poles three times to advance in just 55 minutes.
For the last semi-final berth, the Belgians will square off against seventh seeds Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic on Saturday. The Serbian tandem rallied past Kevin Anderson and Leander Paes 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Anderson and Paes had finished their first-round match earlier, topping Frenchmen Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut 6-7(1), 7-5, 10-5.
In Halle, Michael Kohlmann and Mikhail Youzhny received a walkover from Marcel Granollers and Rafael Nadal after Granollers withdrew from the quarter-final match at the Gerry Weber Open with a right ankle injury.
