Andy Roddick won’t let a six-match loss streak determine his tennis future with the former No. 1 adamant that he’s far from done in the game. The four-time winner exited at Queen’s club in his opening match a victim of France’s Eduardo Roger-Vasselin.
But the confidence of the No. 32 remains fragile at best. “At this point anything is a possibility,” said the 29-year-old who has not won a match since upsetting Roger Federer in Miami last March 26. Roddick has endured injury trouble the last few seasons, with a hamstring and ankle his latest complaints.
He returned to the courts on clay at Dusseldorf last month, but lost all three of his matches at the team event, then exited in the French Open first round to Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.
“I don’t have certainty two, three years (view) down the road. I’m not going to talk about that,” said Roddick after his dismal grass start. “I don’t think I’m going to set the precedent on giving (retirement) dates on a day to day basis, either.”
But Roddick said that when he does pack it in, he won’t miss the ATP grind. “I don’t worry about after tennis, my social life isn’t out here. It’s more important to me probably at home,” said the player married to swimsuit model and actress Brooklyn Decker.
“I enjoy playing tennis, I’m probably different than most of the guys out here. I enjoy the work still. I enjoy being up at the track early and hitting with the guys and putting in the hours. I don’t know that I enjoy the scene of tennis as much, and I think that’s backwards from a lot of people.”
