German Tommy Haas has taken note of what he considers Andy Murray’s award-winning acting skills on court, but does not give the Scot an Oscar for what he sees as serial gamesmanship. The 34-year-old Haas let rip in a television interview at the Gerry Weber Open where he is playing in a field headed by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

Haas seems particularly annoyed at Murray’s perceived habit of “looking like he is injured. . . and then moving like a cat,” adding that “everyone in the locker room knows about it and talks about it”.

The most recent Murray performance came in the French Open second round when he lost the second set 6-1 to Jarkko Nieminen appearing barely able to walk with back spasms. But the No. 4 then suddenly found fitness after a few massage treatments on court and swept past the flustered Finn in four sets.

“It’s difficult when you play against someone who is walking on the court like he is not well or is injured,” said Haas, who is coming back for one last shot at the game after hip surgery.

“Maybe he would like to take some pressure off himself. He tells himself, maybe I have a niggle or a problem, I am not feeling too well, but I’m going to try it anyway. But he is such a talented player that he really doesn’t need this.”
