The Mixed Doubles title went to the Indian Duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza as they captured their second Slam as a paired couple. The lucky #7 seeded Bhupathi/Mirza upset the #2 seeds Mike Bryan and Kveta Peschke en route to the final and there faced the unseeded couple of Santiago Gonzalez and Klaudia Jans-Ignacik. It was a tight first set that was decided by a tiebreaker, but once Bhupathi and Mirza cleared that hurdle, they were off and running to the finish line, sweeping the second set 6-1.
This is Bhupathi and Mirza’s second Mixed Title together. They previously won the 2009 Australian Open Mixed draw. You could say that their victory in the final was sweet revenge as Gonzalez/Jans-Ignacik had knocked out the legendary Leander Paes and his partner Elena Vesnina in the semifinals. Had Paes/Vesnina gotten through to the final, it would’ve been a 3/4 Indian battle, something rarely, if ever seen! 10sballs.com says bravo to Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza on their title run and for being the first title winners here at the 2012 French Open!
