It’s usually a given that Lleyton Hewitt will roll up in Sydney to play the Medibank International. Next January, he might not.
He is beginning the new season by partnering Alicia Molik at the Hopman Cup, beginning on New Year’s Day, but he is still pondering his options for the following week. He has the choice of getting to Melbourne early and taking part in the exhibition event at Kooyong, or there is an alternative event in Adelaide, where Hewitt made his career breakthrough in 1998 by beating Andre Agassi in the semis before going on to defeat Jason Stoltenberg for the title.
Hewitt has been unable to take to the practice court yet after injuring his wrist during Australia’s Davis Cup tie against Belgium last month, a tie that Australia went on to lose 3-2.
