Second seed Andreas Seppi reached the quarter-finals of the Serbia Open 2012 on Wednesday in Belgrade as he defeated Croatia’s Ivan Dodig 6-4, 6-2. The Italian converted five of his seven break point opportunities to claim victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
World No. 46 Seppi, a semi-finalist at this ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tournament in 2009 (l. to Djokovic), improved to a 10-12 match record on the season. The 28 year old is coming off a quarter-final showing in Bucharest (l. to Fognini) last week.
Brazil’s Joao Souza advanced at the expense of Serbian wild card Dusan Lajovic, who was forced to retire when trailing 4-2. The 21-year-old Belgrade native had been leading 2-0 when he twisted his right ankle.
