The clay season will be a bust for injured Kim Clijsters, with the Belgian ready to skip the clay as a hip injury slowly heals. The 28-year-old Belgian, winner of three US Open titles and one at the Australian Open, said she will concentrate on trying to be ready for the London Olympics, where she has said that she wants to possibly end her career.
The veteran said that her “current physical condition does not allow me to be ready for Roland Garros.”
She has played in Paris only once at the last six editions, including the time in which she retired only to return to the sport after giving birth. Clijsters hopes to play on grass in the week before Wimbledon at Rosmalen, the Netherlands.
The player tore a hip muscle – the latest in a run of injuries which has marred what has been billed as her final season – in Key Biscayne.
