The blockbuster Davis Cup by BNP Paribas quarterfinal between France and USA will be staged in the idyllic setting of the Monte Carlo Country Club, Roquebrune- Cap-Martin, France on 6-8 April. It’s the first time that France have played a Davis Cup tie at the venue, which will also host the Masters-1000 event a fortnight later.

France and USA have one of the oldest Davis Cup rivalries having first met in 1905. Since then, there have been a total of 15 meetings with USA edging the series 8-7. The most recent meeting in the 2008 quarterfinals witnessed a win for the American’s on home soil – only twice has a visiting team come away with the win.

The French team are looking for a third consecutive semifinal berth and with six players ranked inside the Top 50 captain Guy Forget certainly has plenty of depth at his disposal in what he has promised will be his final season at the helm. A potentially tricky away tie to Canada in the first round was navigated with relative ease in a 4-1 victory led by two singles victories from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Having overcome a Switzerland team, which included both Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka, on clay in Fribourg, has renewed the American optimism. It will be captain Jim Courier’s task to ensure that his players do not take a potentially stronger French team for granted. For more information visit www.daviscup.com and www.copadavis.com.

The ITF has also confirmed that the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal between Russia and Serbia will take place at the Sports Palace Megasport in Moscow on 21-22 April. The Russian Tennis Federation has also chosen for the tie to be played on clay, which marks the first occasion in six home ties that a surface other than hard court has been selected.
