Roger Federer is glad to benefit from a full February schedule, as the only member of the ATP elite to fill up his playing calendar in the weeks after the Australian Open looks to more Rotterdam success before traveling to his training base in Dubai and that upcoming ATP 500 event.

“I just felt it was the right thing to do, we’ll see how it goes,” said the Swiss No. 3, playing while the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray are off-court.

Federer began with Davis Cup before the Rotterdam ATP event and then moves onto Dubai followed by an exhibition in New York. That precedes the March American hardcourt Masters run at Indian Wells and Key Biscayne.

While the schedule might sound ambitious, the 30-year-old has it all mapped out – as usual. “I’ve got these short little breaks, the week after the Australian Open and a week between Rotterdam and Dubai. I also have a day or so after my exho (exhibition) before Indian Wells.

“Those little breaks are all I need to go on. Now that we (Switzerland) don’t have Davis Cup until September makes scheduling for 2012 a bit easier. I need to wrap my head around by schedule what I want to do in the upcoming weeks.”

Federer said that a full-on February is nothing new. Back in the day, he used to be extra keen to play the indoor events and earned his first title as a teenager in Milan in exactly 11 years ago. “I used to love it at this time of year. I played a lot of indoor event which no longer exist: London, Copenhagen.”
