It might still be a work in progress, as Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka tries to open up more of her personality to the public. She is certainly better than the sullen and evasive individual that she used to be, although there were still moments in her pre-final press conference that she was less than gracious with a number of sarcastic comments. But those days might soon be over.
“Well, I think with my team, my agent, it really helped me to just open up a little bit. Because some people judge you by how you are on the court. Some people judge you by a certain thing you do, which obviously can be a mistake sometimes,” she said.
“I’m a different person when I’m off the court, you know. It just helped me to figure out that it’s important to open up, to be yourself, you know. That’s the most important thing, to be yourself. You don’t try to pretend that you are somebody who you’re not. I’m always looking for that, to be honest, to know what I feel, because there is no point to really hide that.
“If you’re open, if you can admit your feelings, you can admit what you’ve done wrong, what you did right, it’s easier to move on. So I’m really glad that I could open up, you know. Really trying to show my personality for people to get to know me better.”
