Ryan Harrison says that while he was pleased with the work of his former coach, Scott McCain, he hired Grant Doyle in the off season because he needed more personal attention. McCain was coaching Harrison and India’s Somdev Devvarman, and then added South African Rik De Voest.

“Grand and Scott both live in Austin, (Texas) and at the tournament where Grant was going to be there and Scott wasn’t, Scott said you should talk to Grant because I trust him and he knows a lot about the game,” the 19-year-old Harrison told DTN. “At a few tournaments where Scott wasn’t there like at Queens and two Challengers, I got to know Grant better. With Scott working with Somdev and De Voest, I was talking to my dad and said I feel like I need someone who is going to take this all on with me and not other commitments. It had nothing to do with not agreeing with Scott, it was just I needed someone to being just with me.”

The highly-touted American Harrison has been coached by his father, Chip, as well as briefly being tutored by the Nick Bollettieri Academy’s Martin Damn (where Chip works) Christo Vans Renesberg, and various coaches through Player Development.
