Milos Raonic was not the only one to leave the Chennai Open as a winner last weekend.
The Canadian won the tournament, but former player, commentator and sometime James Bond movie star Vijay Amritraj also scored when he was presented with the first of the 2012 ATP ACES For Charity grants. His was the first of 14 grants to come from the 2012 ATP ACES For Charity program for his work with charities throughout India and locally in Chennai through the Vijay Amritraj Foundation.
ATP Supervisor Gerry Armstrong, along with Tournament Director Fernando Soler and ATP Board member Charles Smith, presented Amritraj with the grant for $10,000.
The Vijay Amritraj Foundation helps some of the most pressing causes in India, currently supporting no less than 17 charities that assist women and children, mentally challenged patients and the elderly. Various programs include educating underprivileged children, training midwives in villages and funding cornea transplants for the blind.
The grant will expand its current education projects in the neediest neighborhoods of Chennai, putting an additional 454 children in school.
